CombatAUS welcomes investment package from the Australian Sports Commission

General, Media

CombatAUS welcomes the groundbreaking sports investment package from the Australian Sports Commission (ASC), marking a major milestone for Australian sport preparations as we begin the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games cycle.

The ASC announced a record investment funding package, which will see $385m invested in 70 sports over the next 18 months, resulting in a 64% total system increase each year compared to the period leading up to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

CombatAUS recognises the significant investment announced to fund High Performance and Pathway able and para program activity for Judo, Taekwondo and Wrestling in Australia across the next 18 months. This sees a total of $6.7 million invested into the performance programs of these sports across the 18 months from January 2025 to June 2026, a significant increase on previous investment.

This funding announcement reflects the ASC’s confidence in the LA 2028+ Combat Performance Strategy, developed by CombatAUS and Member Sports, and is reflective of the progressive international performance outcomes and profile of each of these sports.

Whilst disappointed that Boxing is not on the sport program for the LA2028 Olympics and by recent changes made to the delivery structure for High Performance Boxing moving forward, CombatAUS celebrates the recent success of our Boxing High Performance program. Under the CombatAUS model, Australian Boxing athletes delivered the most successful period of sustained international success in Australia boxing history. This included three Olympic medals across Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 – the first Olympic boxing medals for Australia since 1988. We acknowledge the significant ASC investment provided through this latest announcement to Boxing Australia generated by the advanced performance profile developed under the CombatAUS managed Boxing program, and we wish the Boxing athletes all the best on the road to the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

CombatAUS will now be working in partnership with our Member Sports to operationalise the collective LA 2028+ Combat Performance Strategy and maximise the impact of this confirmed investment as we look ahead to Glasgow2026, LA2028 and beyond.
